BBC Survey: 51% believe election of Lobo legitimised coup d'etat against Zelaya

A BBC survey (28th January 2010) found that 51% of all respondents believe the election of Porfirio Lobo to the presidency of Honduras legitimised the coup d'etat against President Manuel Zelaya. The respondents replied to the question "What is the significance of the inauguration of President Lobo as the new President of Honduras?", as follows:
  • 51%, a legitimation of the coup d'etat against President Zelaya
  • 21%, a natural process of evolution of democracy in Honduras
  • 28%, a way out from a bogged down political crisis
